LUZ, CLARÃO, FULGOR — AUGÚRIOS PARA UM ENQUADRAMENTO NÃO HIERÁRQUICO E VENTUROSO

Luce, Bagliore, Fulgore – Auspici per un quadro non gerarchico e rigoglioso

Il film è stato innescato dall’anarchico António Gonçalves Correia e dai suoi esperimenti comunitari: prima la Comuna da Luz [Comune della Luce], a Vale de Santiago/Odemira (1917-18), e in seguito la Comuna Clarão [Comune Bagliore] presso Albarraque/Sintra (1926), questo film espanso prelude a una folgorante degerarchizzazione nell’atto del vedere, cercando di offrire una pedagogia della terra e della convivialità nella bioregione dell’Alentejo.

“Con sguardo ostinato sulle rovine di una comune cerchiamo auspici. Per esempio: “Tempo sereno per i vagabondi”. Camminiamo vagando attraverso i tempi, registrando immagini e suoni in modo erratico attraverso lo spazio caleidoscopico dell’Alentejo, una regione portoghese che prende il nome da un fiume, al di là di un fiume. Poiché camminare offre incontri e co-presenze inattese, missive che vengono inviate da e verso i margini. Per esempio: “Sviluppare organi per l’alternativa”. I nostri sensi sono parziali, precari e frammentari, ma non il nostro orientamento: ogni giorno si combatte una lotta per il fulgore e noi vogliamo esserci. Contro un firmamento di espropriazione della terra, dei corpi e dei legami sociali, ci stiamo preparando. Per esempio: “In buone mani!” Il fulgore è mobile, la comunità che si prefigura è dispersa e diversificata. Attraverso il dissenso e le associazioni di affinità, autonomia e re-incanto, il cinema ci offre la possibilità di fiorire in un quadro non gerarchico.”

Light, Blaze, Fulgor — Auguries for a Non-Hierarchical Framing and Flourishing

The film was sparked by the anarchist António Gonçalves Correia and his communal experiments – first, Comuna da Luz [The Commune of Light], in Vale de Santiago/Odemira (1917-18), followed by Comuna Clarão [The Blaze Commune], in Albarraque / Sintra (1926). Metamorphosing itself in different iterations, this expanded film anticipates a fulgurous de-hierarchization of the act of seeing, while attempting to offer a pedagogy of land and conviviality in the bio-region of Alentejo.

“Stubbornly looking at the ruins of a commune we search for auguries. For instance: “Fair weather for drifters.” We wander by foot across times, erratically shooting images and recording sounds through the kaleidoscopic spatiality of Alentejo, a Portuguese region named after a river, beyond a river. As walking offers unexpected encounters and co-presences, missives are sent to and from the margins. For instance: “growing organs for the alternative.” Our senses are partial, precarious and fragmentary, but not our orientation: There is an everyday struggle for the fulgor being fought and we want to be in it. Against a firmament of dispossession of land, bodies and social bonds, we are getting ready. For instance: “On the level!” The fulgor is mobile, the prefigured community dispersed and diverse. Through dissent and associations of affinity, autonomy and re-enchantment, the offer of cinema could be to let us flourish in non-hierarchical frames.”

Sílvia das Fadas è una regista, ricercatrice conviviale e educatrice con sede nel sud del Portogallo. Ha conseguito un MFA in Film and Video presso CalArts (USA), è stata cooperation fellow presso l’Akademie Schloss Solitude nel 2019 e visiting fellow presso il Center for Place Culture and Politics, The Graduate Center, CUNY, nel 2020. È attualmente dottoranda presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna finanziata da una borsa di studio FCT. La sua filmografia rifiuta la digitalizzazione del mondo e include “Light, Blaze, Fulgor — Auguries for a Non-Hierarchical Framing and Flourishing” (2018 – in corso), “The House Is Yet to Be Built” (2015-2018), “Square Dance, Los Angeles County, California, 2013” e “Apanhar Laranjas/Picking Oranges” (2012). Si interessa della politica intrinseca alle pratiche cinematografiche e del cinema come modalità di stare insieme nell’irrequietezza e nella fragilità.”

Sílvia das Fadas is a filmmaker, a convivial researcher, and educator based in southern Portugal. She holds a MFA in Film and Video from CalArts (USA), was a cooperation fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2019, and a visiting fellow at the Center for Place Culture and Politics, The Graduate Center, CUNY, in 2020. She is currently a PhD-in-Practice candidate at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna supported by a FCT scholarship. Her filmography refuses the digitalization of the world and includes “Light, Blaze, Fulgor — Auguries for a Non-Hierarchical Framing and Flourishing” (2018 – ongoing), “The House Is Yet to Be Built” (2015-2018), “Square Dance, Los Angeles County, California, 2013” and “Apanhar Laranjas/Picking Oranges” (2012). She is interested in the politics intrinsic to cinematic practices and in cinema as a way of being together in restlessness and brokenness.
